Virginia Tech Stuns Boston College with Record-Breaking Performance
Tuten’s Historic Night Propels Hokies to Victory
In a thrilling matchup, Virginia Tech’s Bhayshul Tuten made history by rushing for a school record 266 yards and accounting for four touchdowns, leading the Hokies to a convincing 42-21 win over Boston College.
Fast Start Sets the Tone
The Hokies came out strong, scoring touchdowns on their first three possessions and never looking back. Kyron Drones added two rushing touchdowns and a touchdown pass to the mix, as Virginia Tech dominated the game from start to finish.
Tuten’s Explosive Performance
Tuten’s impressive display included touchdown runs of 83 and 61 yards, the latter sealing the game with 8:28 left on the clock. He also hauled in a 20-yard touchdown pass from Drones, showcasing his versatility and skill.
A Special Game for Tuten
“Every game is special, and I just felt a little better today,” Tuten said after the game. “We had a bye week, and I felt great throughout practice. I took the knee brace off, and I felt fast, I felt good, I felt fluid. I just came out and balled today, and that’s what we needed.”
Boston College’s Late Push
Despite trailing 28-0 at halftime, Boston College fought back, cutting the lead to 28-21 on Kye Robichaux’s 5-yard run with 2:55 left in the third quarter. However, the Eagles’ momentum was short-lived, as they were stopped on fourth-and-1 at midfield, paving the way for Virginia Tech’s decisive victory.
Coach Pry’s Praise
“That’s a good team that we beat tonight, and we beat them soundly,” Virginia Tech coach Brent Pry said. “Tuten’s performance was deserving of the school record, and we’re proud of our team’s effort.”
A Record-Breaking Night
Tuten’s 266 rushing yards broke the previous school record of 253 held by Darren Evans, set in 2008. He is now part of an elite group of Hokies players, including Kevin Jones and Michael Vick, who have achieved 200 rushing yards and three rushing touchdowns in a single game.
Drones’ Impressive Showing
Kyron Drones had a standout performance, completing 14 of 18 passes for 164 yards and rushing for 40 yards. Behind Tuten and Drones, the Hokies finished with a season-high 533 yards.
Boston College’s Disappointment
Thomas Castellanos threw for 205 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Eagles, who finished with 372 yards. Despite feeling confident about their preparation, Boston College coach Bill O’Brien acknowledged that they fell short, saying, “We’ve got to prepare differently, better, whatever it might be. We’ve got to figure it out.”
