Bakenga’s Brilliant Finish: Punjab FC Star Channels Rashford to Score Goal of a Lifetime

A Life Beyond Football: Mushaga Bakenga’s Quest for Change

Mushaga Bakenga, a Norwegian footballer of Congolese origin, has a remarkable story to tell. While his football career may not be etched in the annals of history, his selfless endeavors off the pitch will undoubtedly leave a lasting impact.

A Humble Beginning

Born in Trondheim, Norway, Bakenga’s early life was marked by turmoil. His family, including his Nobel Peace Prize-winning uncle, Dr. Dennis Mukwege, were forced to flee their home in Eastern Congo due to the First Congo War. This experience instilled in Bakenga a deep sense of empathy and a desire to make a difference.

Jabez’s World: A Beacon of Hope

Bakenga founded Jabez’s World, a non-profit organization that established College Namugunga, a free school in Nyangezi, Eastern Congo. The school provides education and food to over 1,300 students, many of whom have won university scholarships. This remarkable achievement earned Bakenga the prestigious FIFPro Marcus Rashford Award, recognizing his outstanding contribution to the community.

A Cycle of Hope

Bakenga’s work is not limited to providing education; he aims to break the cycle of violence that plagues the region. He believes that empowering the next generation can bring about lasting change. His students’ stories are a testament to his efforts – one student, who walked two hours to school every day, will soon complete his master’s degree and return to Nyangezi to give back to the community.

Overcoming Adversity

Despite facing criticism and abuse from those who believe sports and politics should be separate, Bakenga remains resolute in his mission. He acknowledges that life is more than just football and is driven by the hope that good people can make a difference.

A Brighter Future

Bakenga’s ultimate goal is to establish 10 schools in the next 10 years, bringing hope and opportunities to thousands of children. His award-winning work serves as a beacon of inspiration, encouraging others to join him in creating a better world.

As Bakenga looks back on his life, he will not be remembered solely for his football career, but for the countless lives he has touched and the positive impact he has had on his community.
