Playoff Magic Ignites in Cleveland
The city of Cleveland was electric last night as the Guardians staged a thrilling comeback against the New York Yankees in Game 3 of the ALCS. Down by two runs with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning, right fielder Jhonkensy Noel stepped up to the plate and sent the crowd into a frenzy with a game-tying home run.
A Historic Moment
Noel’s heroics marked only the third time a player has hit a game-tying home run in the bottom of the ninth inning or later in ALCS history. But the Guardians weren’t done yet. In the very next inning, David Fry sealed the deal with a walk-off two-run homer, securing a 7-5 victory for Cleveland.
A Rarity for the Yankees
The loss was a rare one for the Yankees, who have historically been dominant when leading by multiple runs in the ninth inning or later. In fact, they had been 196-2 in such situations prior to last night’s game.
Reactions Pour In
The Guardians’ stunning comeback sparked a wave of excitement across the sports world. NFL star Travis Kelce tweeted, “Playoff baseball baby!!! @CleGuardians have the city absolutely ROCKIN TONIGHT!! What a game! :fire::fire::fire:”. NBA stars Donovan Mitchell and Josh Hart also weighed in, with Mitchell exclaiming “David Fry Again:scream::scream::scream:” and Hart simply stating “Damn…”.
A City Celebrates
Other athletes, including Jameis Winston and Tristan Thompson, joined in the celebration, with Thompson tweeting “GUARDIANS!!!!! Walk off :exploding_head:”. The Guardians will look to build on this momentum when they host Game 4 against the Yankees on Friday.
