Holy hell, I’m still reeling from the cinematic masterpiece that is ‘Rebel Ridge’. In a year where Netflix has churned out some of the most godawful, soulless crap, they somehow managed to sneak in a real gem under the radar. I’m talking about a movie that’s got more balls than a porn star’s Christmas party.
Let’s face it, Netflix has been phoning it in lately. They’re like a lazy ass uncle who only shows up to family gatherings for the free food. ‘Unfrosted’, ‘Scoop’, ‘Rebel Moon’ – all complete and utter trash. And don’t even get me started on their lackluster shows like ‘The Perfect Couple’, which I’ve seen advertised on more trash cans than I can count. It’s like they’re trying to insult our intelligence.
But then, out of nowhere, comes ‘Rebel Ridge’, a gritty, intense, and unapologetic thrill ride that’ll keep you on the edge of your seat from start to finish. Directed by Jeremy Saulnier, the mastermind behind the underrated ‘Green Room’, this movie tells the story of a former Marine who takes on corrupt law enforcement in a small town to bail out his cousin. It’s like ‘First Blood’ on steroids, with twists and turns that’ll keep you guessing till the very end.
The cast is phenomenal, with standout performances from Aaron Pierre, Don Johnson, AnnaSophia Robb, and David Denman. But it’s Don Johnson who steals the show as the perfect antagonist – he’s got Oscar-worthy written all over him.
What’s even more impressive is that Netflix barely promoted this movie, relying on word-of-mouth to generate buzz. Meanwhile, they’re wasting their resources on Adam Sandler’s latest lazy comedy or some half-baked sci-fi epic. It’s time for them to shift their focus to movies like ‘Rebel Ridge’, which has a timeless premise and genre that audiences love.
So, ditch whatever crap you were planning to watch and give ‘Rebel Ridge’ a shot. Trust me, you won’t regret it. This is the kind of movie that’ll make you remember why you subscribed to Netflix in the first place.
