Breakers Fall to Bullets in Thrilling NBL Clash

NBL Showdown: Brisbane Bullets Edge Out New Zealand Breakers

The wait is finally over! After a thrilling three-game tour of the United States, the New Zealand Breakers returned to the NBL, only to fall short against the Brisbane Bullets in a nail-biting 84-73 clash.

A Fresh Start for the Breakers

The Breakers had kicked off their season on a high note, securing wins against the Bullets and South East Melbourne Phoenix. However, their momentum was put to the test as they embarked on a grueling three-game tour of the US, facing off against NBA powerhouses Utah Jazz, Philadelphia 76ers, and Oklahoma City Thunder.

Brisbane’s Moment of Truth

Meanwhile, the Brisbane Bullets were riding high on their first win of the season, secured against the Phoenix on Saturday night. Determined to make it two in a row, they came out strong against the Breakers, dominating the game from start to finish.

Breakers Refuse to Back Down

Despite Brisbane’s stronghold, the Breakers refused to give up. Parker Jackson-Cartwright led the charge, notching an impressive 20 points, seven rebounds, and six assists to strengthen his MVP claims. Mojave King also made his presence felt, scoring nine quick points to briefly give the Breakers the lead.

Brisbane’s Defensive Masterclass

However, the Bullets’ defense proved impenetrable, with coach Justin Schueller praising his team’s effort. “Any time in our league when teams aren’t getting to 80 on the scoreboard, you have to be happy with the defensive effort,” he said. The Bullets’ strategy paid off, limiting the Breakers to just 73 points.

Standout Performances

James Batemon continued his impressive form off the bench, sinking 21 points on 5-of-8 three-point shooting. Casey Prather and Tyrell Harrison also chipped in with 13 points each, while Sam Mennenga fought hard for the Breakers, securing 15 points and five rebounds.

What’s Next for the Breakers?

Despite the loss, Breakers coach Petteri Koponen couldn’t fault his team’s effort. “I felt like we still had a chance to win this game and we didn’t start very well, and overall didn’t play well, but we had quality shots and had our moments.” The Breakers will look to bounce back when they host the Perth Wildcats on Saturday.
