Business as Usual for Raiders After Davante Adams Trade
The Las Vegas Raiders are moving forward with a new reality after trading three-time All-Pro receiver Davante Adams to the New York Jets. Coach Antonio Pierce emphasized that it’s “next man up, move on” for the team, despite the significant loss.
No Rebuild Mode Here
Pierce dismissed the idea that the trade signals a rebuild for the Raiders. Instead, he’s focused on the team being the best version of themselves. “You never replace an All-Pro receiver like Davante,” Pierce said. “But at the end of the day, we’re not trying to. We’re trying to be the best versions of ourselves.”
Adams’ Departure Leaves a Void
Adams, who missed the last three games with a hamstring injury, requested a trade on September 30. His absence was felt, as the Raiders lost their last two games by a combined score of 66-31. Now, with Adams reunited with his old quarterback Aaron Rodgers on the Jets, the Raiders must adapt.
Locker Room Reaction
The mood in the locker room was surprisingly calm, with players acknowledging the change but expressing confidence in their abilities. Receiver Jakobi Meyers, who takes over the WR1 role, described the situation as “a period on a weird situation.” Rookie tight end Brock Bowers, who leads the team in catches and yards, admitted the vibe is “a little bit different” but believes the team can still succeed.
Defensive Perspective
Defensively, the Raiders will miss going against Adams in practice, but cornerback Jack Jones is focused on the present. “We’ve still got some good receivers to go against in practice,” Jones said. Three-time Pro Bowl defensive end Maxx Crosby, who considers Adams a close friend, will miss him but is focused on winning with the current roster.
Moving Forward
As the Raiders look to bounce back from their recent losses, they’re putting the Adams trade behind them. With a new reality comes new opportunities, and the team is determined to make the most of them. As Coach Pierce said, “Next man up, move on.”
