Vikings’ Star Running Back Aaron Jones Racing Against Time to Recover
Minnesota Vikings running back Aaron Jones is fighting to get back on the field after a hamstring injury forced him to sit out Wednesday’s full-pads practice. Initially diagnosed with a hip injury, the team has since reclassified the issue, leaving Jones’ availability for Sunday’s game against the Detroit Lions uncertain.
A Glimmer of Hope
Despite the setback, Jones remains optimistic, hoping to return to practice on Thursday. “I’m feeling better every day,” he said. “I just need to keep progressing and hopefully, I’ll be ready to go on Sunday.” Vikings coach Kevin O’Connell is taking a cautious approach, refusing to commit to Jones’ participation in the upcoming game.
The Injury Timeline
Jones first experienced tightness in his right hip during pregame warmups before the Vikings’ Week 5 game against the New York Jets in London. Although it loosened up prior to kickoff, the discomfort returned after he made a spectacular 23-yard catch from backup quarterback Nick Mullens. “That play really did it,” Jones recalled. He managed two more carries before the medical staff intervened, pulling him from the game to prevent further injury.
Backup Plans in Place
If Jones is unable to play, backup Ty Chandler will step into the starting role. The Vikings have also bolstered their running back corps by reacquiring Cam Akers from the Houston Texans, who is expected to be available against the Lions. As the clock ticks down, Jones is doing everything in his power to get back on the field and lead his team to victory.
