Seattle Seahawks Suffer Another Defensive Blow
The Seattle Seahawks’ defensive woes continue to mount, as starting safety Rayshawn Jenkins has been placed on injured reserve, ruling him out for at least the next four games. This latest setback comes on the heels of a string of injuries that have depleted the team’s defensive ranks.
A Season of Struggle
Jenkins, who has played every snap this season, had been listed on Seattle’s practice reports with a hand injury for the past two weeks. Despite wearing a cast over his left hand in the last two games, he had managed to soldier on. However, his absence will be deeply felt, particularly in light of the team’s recent struggles.
Depth Chart Shuffle
With Jenkins sidelined, K’Von Wallace and Coby Bryant will be called upon to fill the void. The team has also signed Ty Okada off its practice squad to provide added depth. However, the loss of Jenkins is just the latest in a series of blows to a defense that has been short-handed for most of the past month.
Injury Plague
Outside linebacker Uchenna Nwosu was placed on IR last week, and his return is not expected until late in the season. Rookie defensive tackle Byron Murphy II, the team’s first-round pick, is practicing this week in the hopes of returning from a hamstring injury that has kept him out for three games. Meanwhile, nickelback Artie Burns is also on IR, and the statuses of cornerbacks Riq Woolen and Tre Brown are uncertain due to ankle injuries.
Reinforcements Arrive
In an effort to bolster its depleted ranks, the team has signed cornerback Eric Garror to its practice squad. However, it remains to be seen whether these reinforcements will be enough to stem the tide of injuries that have ravaged the Seahawks’ defense.
Other Injury Updates
Coach Mike Macdonald provided updates on several other injured players, including right tackle George Fant, who is making progress but is unlikely to come off IR this week. The team has also decided not to open Abe Lucas’ practice window this week. As the Seahawks prepare to face the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday, they can only hope that their injury luck will soon turn around.
