Texas Shifts Focus to Georgia After Big Win

Texas Dominates Oklahoma in Red River Rivalry

The University of Texas Longhorns made a statement on Saturday, defeating the Oklahoma Sooners 34-3 in the Red River Rivalry. Despite the convincing win, the team’s focus has already shifted to next weekend’s matchup against Georgia.

A Subdued Celebration

After the game, Texas coach Steve Sarkisian was seen enjoying a corn dog, a State Fair of Texas favorite, during his post-game interview. However, the celebratory mood was short-lived, as the team is already looking ahead to its next challenge. “We’ve got the Golden Hat back, but now it’s time to put it in the trophy case and keep grinding,” Sarkisian said.

A Slow Start

The Longhorns got off to a slow start, with more penalty yards (15) than offensive yards (13) in the first quarter. Quarterback Quinn Ewers, who returned from injury, was sacked on the game’s first play and intercepted two plays later. However, the team’s defense never let Oklahoma get into a rhythm, and Texas eventually wore out the Sooners.

A Breakout Performance

Sophomore running back Quintrevion Wisner had a breakout game, rushing for 118 yards, including a 43-yard touchdown run in the second quarter. The Longhorns averaged 5.9 yards per rush, while holding Oklahoma to just 2.3 yards.

Disappointment for Oklahoma

The loss was another disappointing performance for Oklahoma’s offense. Coach Brent Venables has already made a change at quarterback this season, and the team has not had a quarterback top 200 passing yards in a game.

Looking Ahead

Despite the win, Texas players are already focused on next weekend’s game against Georgia. “I’m ready for Georgia,” senior defensive back Jahdae Barron said. “Let’s talk about Georgia.” Senior offensive lineman Jake Majors echoed his teammate’s thoughts, saying, “We want to be great, so we’re going to enjoy this win for 24 hours and then get ready for next week.”

Respect for the Rivalry

Sarkisian emphasized the importance of the Red River Rivalry, calling it the “greatest atmosphere in college football.” However, he also acknowledged that the team’s focus has shifted to what it can accomplish next. “We enjoyed the win, but it’s almost like our team knows there’s more work to do,” he said.
