Bills Running Back James Cook Sidelined with Toe Injury
The Buffalo Bills were dealt a blow on Monday night as running back James Cook was forced to sit out the game against the New York Jets due to a lingering toe injury. Cook suffered the injury in last week’s loss to the Houston Texans and was a limited participant in Saturday’s practice.
A Day-by-Day Approach to Recovery
Despite his questionable designation, Cook remained optimistic about his chances of returning to the field. “It’s getting better,” he said after Saturday’s practice. “I’m just taking it day by day, treatment, see how I feel on Monday.” Unfortunately, Monday arrived, and Cook was not ready to go.
Rookies Step Up to Fill the Void
In Cook’s absence, the Bills have elevated rookie running back Frank Gore Jr. from the practice squad. This will be Gore’s first career game action. Fellow running backs Ty Johnson and rookie Ray Davis are expected to take on a significant load in Cook’s absence.
Bills Look to Avoid Three-Game Losing Streak
The Bills are looking to bounce back from a two-game losing streak and avoid their first three-game skid since 2018. While Cook is out, several key players have been cleared to play, including defensive tackle Ed Oliver (hamstring), wide receiver Khalil Shakir (ankle), nickel cornerback Taron Johnson, and defensive tackle Austin Johnson.
Taron Johnson Returns to Action
Taron Johnson will make his long-awaited return to the field after being sidelined since Week 1. His presence will be a welcome boost to the Bills’ defense as they look to contain the Jets’ offense.
