Cowboys Coach Mike Gundy Suffers Unusual Eye Injury
Oklahoma State coach Mike Gundy’s week just got a whole lot tougher. On the heels of three consecutive losses, Gundy suffered an unusual eye injury during the team’s bye week, forcing him to move his weekly news conference to Zoom.
A Run-In with Cattle
Gundy explained the situation to reporters, saying, “I had a little run-in with my cattle over the weekend. I guess they’ve been watching us play and I got headbutted.” The injury left Gundy with a badly bruised eye, which he described as “full of blood” and causing dizziness.
Coaching Status Uncertain
Despite the injury, Gundy is expected to coach the Cowboys when they visit No. 13 BYU on Saturday. However, it remains unclear how the injury will impact his duties during the game. Gundy downplayed the situation, saying, “It should get better every day… I’m fine. I’m working the same hours.”
Tough Road Ahead
The Cowboys are reeling from three straight losses, which have all but eliminated their Big 12 and College Football Playoff aspirations. After a 3-0 start, Oklahoma State now sits at 3-3 and 0-3 in conference play for the first time since 2005. The team faces a tough test on the road against unbeaten BYU, where they opened as nine-point underdogs.
Gundy’s Resolve Unshaken
Despite the setbacks, Gundy remains resolute. “I mean, it’s no big deal,” he said. “I just didn’t think it was very appealing.” Gundy’s determination will be put to the test as the Cowboys look to bounce back from their recent struggles.
