Gaudreau’s Father Skates with Blue Jackets

A Heartfelt Tribute: Guy Gaudreau Joins Blue Jackets’ Practice

The Columbus Blue Jackets recently welcomed a special guest to their practice session – Guy Gaudreau, father of the late Johnny and Matthew Gaudreau. His presence was a poignant reminder of the bond between the team and the Gaudreau family.

Honoring a Legacy

As a tribute to Johnny Gaudreau’s memory, the team has introduced a “Johnny skate” tradition at the end of practice. Players take a shot from the far end of the ice, and if they make it, they skate one lap; if they miss, they skate three laps. The shooter on Monday intentionally missed, but no one minded – it was Guy Gaudreau who took the shot.

A Joyful Moment

Guy Gaudreau’s visit brought a sense of joy to the practice session. He skated with players, tapped his stick on the ice to encourage them, and exchanged fist-bumps before the session ended. Coach Dean Evason described it as a “joy to have him out there.”

A Hockey Family

As a former hockey coach at Hollydell Ice Arena and Gloucester Catholic High School in New Jersey, Guy Gaudreau is no stranger to the sport. His sons, Johnny and Matthew, were both passionate about hockey, and their love for the game has left a lasting impact on the Blue Jackets.

Tributes Pour In

The tributes to the Gaudreau brothers have been pouring in from around the hockey world. The Philadelphia Flyers had previously invited Guy Gaudreau to be a guest at their practice, and the Blue Jackets followed suit. On Tuesday night, the team will face an emotional test as they pay tribute to the Gaudreau brothers in their home opener against the Florida Panthers.

A Lasting Bond

Guy Gaudreau’s visit has strengthened the bond between the Blue Jackets and the Gaudreau family. As Coach Evason said, “He just wants to be around. It’s fantastic.” The team is grateful for his presence, and his love for the game is a reminder of the impact that Johnny and Matthew had on the hockey world.
