Ridley Demands Early Targets

Titans’ Calvin Ridley Speaks Out on Lack of Production

In a candid post-game interview, Tennessee Titans wide receiver Calvin Ridley expressed frustration with his performance in the team’s 20-17 loss to the Indianapolis Colts. Despite being targeted eight times, Ridley failed to secure a single catch.

A Call for More Involvement

Ridley emphasized the need for more opportunities early in the game, stating, “I need some in the beginning of the game too… This is getting crazy. I sucked today and got to do better.” He believes that getting the ball earlier would allow him to be more involved in the game and perform at a higher level.

Coach Callahan’s Perspective

Titans coach Brian Callahan acknowledged Ridley’s disappointment, saying, “I’m sure he’ll be the first one to tell you it was disappointing. He’s one of our best players and we look to him to try and make a play or two and we didn’t get it done at the end of the game.” Callahan had expressed his intention to get Ridley more involved in the game, but the wide receiver was only targeted twice in the first half.

A Rare Occurrence

According to ESPN Research, this marks the first time since 2015 that a wide receiver has been targeted eight times without registering a catch. The last time Ridley went without a catch was in Week 4 of the 2020 season with the Falcons.

Ridley’s Recent Struggles

The Titans brought Ridley in from Jacksonville to be their No. 1 receiver, but he has struggled to produce in recent games. Over the past two games, Ridley has managed just two receptions for 14 yards, and through five games, he has caught nine passes on 27 targets for 141 yards and one touchdown.
