Yankees Add Rizzo, Stroman for ALCS

Yankees Gear Up for ALCS with Roster Additions

As the New York Yankees prepare to face off against the Cleveland Guardians in the American League Championship Series, they’ve made some key additions to their roster. Veterans Anthony Rizzo and Marcus Stroman have been included in the lineup, bringing much-needed experience and skill to the table.

Rizzo’s Rapid Recovery

Just 16 days after suffering a fractured hand, Rizzo is set to make his return to the field. Despite initial estimates suggesting a three-to-four-week recovery period, Rizzo has ramped up his baseball activities and is ready to go for Game 1. Whether he’ll start or not remains to be seen, but his presence on the roster is a welcome boost for the Yankees.

Stroman Joins the Bullpen

Marcus Stroman will serve as a long man out of the Yankees’ bullpen, providing an extra layer of depth and support. With the ALCS being a seven-game series with fewer off-days, the team recognized the need for additional pitching options. Stroman’s inclusion gives the Yankees a reliable arm to turn to in blowout or extra-inning situations.

Roster Shake-Ups

The addition of Rizzo and Stroman means that rookie first baseman Ben Rice and pinch-running specialist Duke Ellis have been left off the ALCS roster. The Yankees now have 12 pitchers and 14 position players at their disposal. Meanwhile, the Guardians have made a single change to their roster, replacing infielder Angel Martinez with right-hander Pedro Avila.

A Defensive Upgrade

Rizzo’s return brings a significant defensive upgrade to the Yankees’ lineup. A four-time Gold Glove winner, Rizzo’s expertise at first base will be invaluable in the ALCS. His presence also allows the team to reassess their infield strategy, with Jon Berti and Oswaldo Cabrera having filled in at first base during the AL Division Series.

Experience Counts

The inclusion of Rizzo and Stroman brings a wealth of experience to the Yankees’ roster. As they look to secure their first World Series appearance since 2009, these veteran players will be crucial in guiding the team through the high-pressure environment of the ALCS.
