In the wake of a crucial victory over the Seattle Seahawks, the New York Giants are dealing with a mixed bag of injury news. On the one hand, promising rookie wide receiver Malik Nabers is making strides in his recovery from a concussion, while on the other hand, outside linebacker Kayvon Thibodeaux is facing an uncertain timeline after undergoing wrist surgery.
Thibodeaux, who suffered a fractured scaphoid bone during the win over the Seahawks, is expected to miss some time, although coach Brian Daboll remains optimistic about his chances of returning this season. The second-year linebacker has been a key contributor to the Giants’ defense, racking up 12 tackles and 2.0 sacks in five games.
In Thibodeaux’s absence, fourth-year edge rusher Azeez Ojulari is poised to step into the spotlight opposite offseason acquisition Brian Burns. Ojulari, who has struggled with injuries throughout his career, will look to recapture the form that saw him notch eight sacks as a rookie in 2021.
Meanwhile, Nabers is slowly but surely working his way back from a concussion that forced him to miss last week’s game. The fifth overall pick in this year’s draft was spotted stretching and jogging lightly during Wednesday’s practice, and coach Daboll is cautiously optimistic about his prospects for a return against the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday night.
Nabers has been a revelation for the Giants this season, hauling in 35 catches for 386 yards and three touchdowns in just four games. His presence on the field has been sorely missed, and his potential return would be a significant boost to the Giants’ offense.
In other injury news, starting running back Devin Singletary appears to be on track to return against the Bengals after missing last week’s game with an injury. Singletary practiced on Wednesday and seemed to be moving well, and coach Daboll is encouraged by his progress.
