In a surprising move, the Mexican Football Federation has opted not to take disciplinary action against Chivas Guadalajara midfielder Roberto Alvarado, who sparked outrage by tossing a firecracker into a crowded media room prior to a highly anticipated press conference. The incident, which occurred at the club’s Verde Valle headquarters, left journalists shaken and irate.
Although Alvarado subsequently extended an apology to the affected media personnel, the FMF has chosen to sidestep the issue, citing that the incident fell outside their jurisdiction since it did not occur during an actual match. Neither Chivas Guadalajara nor Liga MX have issued official statements on the matter.
According to the FMF, their disciplinary commission lacks the authority to impose sanctions in this case, as the incident took place within the club’s facilities following a training session. The Federation’s rules governing disciplinary action do not apply to incidents that occur outside the context of an officially sanctioned match.
In the aftermath of the incident, both the club’s press officer and Chivas defender Antonio BriseƱo offered apologies to the media representatives present. Despite the lack of official repercussions, the incident has sparked controversy and raised questions about player conduct and accountability.
