In a devastating blow to the Las Vegas Raiders’ defense, star tackle Christian Wilkins has undergone surgery to repair a Jones fracture in his left foot, leaving him sidelined indefinitely. The news, confirmed by a league source, comes just days after Wilkins suffered the injury during Sunday’s loss to the Denver Broncos.
Despite initial discomfort, Wilkins played through the pain, even notching his second sack of the season in the second quarter. However, he was eventually ruled out of the game at halftime and was spotted wearing a protective boot in the locker room afterwards.
The 28-year-old defensive tackle, who signed a lucrative four-year, $110 million contract with the Raiders in March, has been a dominant force on the field, racking up 17 tackles, 2 sacks, and 6 quarterback hits in just five games this season. His impressive career stats include 22.5 sacks, with a personal best of 9 sacks last season with the Miami Dolphins.
The Raiders, who face off against the Pittsburgh Steelers this Sunday, will sorely miss Wilkins’ presence on the defensive line. This marks the first time Wilkins has missed a game since 2020, and his extended absence will undoubtedly be felt by the team.
