Legendary Cornerback Pat Fischer Passes Away at 84

The football world is mourning the loss of Pat Fischer, a three-time Pro Bowl cornerback who spent 17 seasons in the NFL with the St. Louis Cardinals and Washington Commanders. Fischer’s family notified the Commanders of his passing, although the cause of death remains unknown.

Fischer’s illustrious career spanned from 1961 to 1977, during which he earned first-team All-Pro honors in 1964 and Pro Bowl selections in 1964, 1965, and 1969. He played 220 regular-season and playoff games, racking up an impressive 57 interceptions. Fischer began his NFL journey with the St. Louis Cardinals, spending seven years with the team before joining Washington for the final decade of his career.

Before turning pro, Fischer was a versatile player at Nebraska, exceling at safety, tailback, and quarterback. Growing up in St. Edward, Nebraska, he was just a short drive from his alma mater. Despite being a 17th-round draft pick (232nd overall), Fischer went on to become a beloved figure in Washington’s ring of fame. His legacy will be deeply missed by fans and fellow players alike.
