Renowned boxer Ryan Garcia, 26, has been cleared of a misdemeanor vandalism charge stemming from an incident at the luxurious Waldorf Astoria Beverly Hills in June. Garcia’s legal representative, Michael A. Goldstein, confirmed the dismissal to ESPN, citing the boxer’s reimbursement of the estimated $15,000 in damages and the hotel’s decision not to pursue the matter further.
The incident occurred during a tumultuous period in Garcia’s life, as he had just learned of his mother’s serious health issues and was under immense emotional strain. Goldstein emphasized that the boxer’s actions were a result of this stress, rather than any malicious intent.
Garcia’s legal team had anticipated a favorable outcome, viewing the incident as a civil matter rather than a criminal offense. The Beverly Hills Police Department, the Waldorf Astoria, and the court have been commended for their professionalism in handling the case.
This development comes on the heels of Garcia’s one-year suspension by the New York Athletic Commission, which was imposed in May after he tested positive for the banned substance ostarine. The suspension will expire in April, allowing Garcia to return to the ring. Meanwhile, Garcia is also facing a lawsuit filed by Devin Haney, whom he defeated in a majority decision last April, only to have the result overturned to a no contest due to the positive PED test.
