As Hurricane Milton bears down on the Sunshine State, several sports teams are taking proactive measures to ensure their safety and minimize disruptions to their schedules. The Tampa Bay Lightning, set to face off against the Carolina Hurricanes on Friday, have temporarily relocated to the Raleigh area to prepare for their season opener. With Milton expected to make landfall on Wednesday night, the team’s home opener against the Hurricanes on Saturday remains on schedule for now.
Meanwhile, the NFL’s Tampa Bay Buccaneers are also taking precautions, opting to travel to New Orleans early ahead of their Sunday matchup against the Saints. At the collegiate level, the American Athletic Conference has rescheduled a football game between Memphis and South Florida, originally set for Friday night, to Saturday at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa. The conference will continue to monitor the situation and make adjustments as needed.
In other news, the LPGA has postponed qualifying for its Q-Series, which was slated to take place from Sunday to October 18 at Plantation Golf and Country Club in Venice, Florida. The organization cited the safety of athletes, caddies, staff, volunteers, and the local community as its top priority, and will provide an update once the storm has passed. “Our thoughts are with the entire Florida community as we prepare for the storm,” the LPGA said in a statement.
