In a precautionary move, Chicago Bears safety Jaquan Brisker has entered the league’s concussion protocol after experiencing symptoms following Sunday’s convincing 36-10 victory over the Carolina Panthers. Although Brisker did not accompany the team on their flight to London, he has not been officially ruled out of this weekend’s clash against the Jacksonville Jaguars at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. If he successfully navigates the NFL’s rigorous five-step concussion protocol by the end of the week, Brisker will be cleared to rejoin his teammates in London.
During the Panthers game, Brisker delivered a crushing hit on tight end Tommy Tremble, forcing a turnover in the second quarter. Despite appearing shaken, Brisker remained in the game, logging an impressive 85% of defensive snaps. It wasn’t until after the game that he reported symptoms, prompting the Bears to take proactive measures.
This marks Brisker’s third diagnosed concussion in as many seasons. The 25-year-old safety has a history of head injuries, having missed two games as a rookie due to a concussion sustained in Atlanta. In October 2023, Brisker was evaluated for a concussion but continued to play, only to be ruled out of the following week’s game with what was initially termed an “illness,” later revealed to be a concussion.
Brisker’s absence would be felt, as he currently leads the team with 40 tackles (3 for loss) and has recorded one forced fumble through five games. If he is unable to clear protocol, backup safety Elijah Hicks is likely to step into his role. The Bears also announced that defensive tackle Zacch Pickens (groin) and cornerback Terell Smith (hip) did not travel with the team to London.
