**Wild Secure Future in Net with Extension for Young Goaltender**
The Minnesota Wild solidified their goaltending situation on Monday, inking 21-year-old Jesper Wallstedt to a two-year, $4.4 million contract extension. The deal kicks in for the 2025-26 season, after Wallstedt completes his current entry-level contract.
Wallstedt made a promising NHL debut last season, posting a 2-1-0 record in three road games, along with an.897 save percentage and 3.01 goals-against average. The Swedish native etched his name in Wild history as the youngest goalie to make his debut, doing so in a January 10 loss to the Dallas Stars. He followed that up with his first win and shutout in a 4-0 blanking of the Chicago Blackhawks on April 7.
Selected 20th overall by the Wild in the 2021 NHL draft, Wallstedt is poised to be a key piece of the team’s future. With this extension, Minnesota has ensured that their talented young netminder will be between the pipes for years to come. The Wild open their 2024-25 campaign at home against the Columbus Blue Jackets on Thursday.
