In a surprise move, Iowa Hawkeyes running back Leshon Williams has declared his intention to explore new opportunities through the transfer portal. This decision comes after a season that saw him struggle to find his footing, hindered by injuries during fall camp and limited playing time in the team’s last two games.
Despite being a top-six rusher in the Big Ten last year with 821 yards and two touchdowns, Williams found himself overshadowed by junior Kaleb Johnson, who has taken the reins as Iowa’s lead running back. Johnson’s impressive form has seen him rack up 771 yards and 10 touchdowns, including a standout performance against Minnesota where he rushed for 206 yards and three scores.
Over his four-year tenure with the Hawkeyes, Williams accumulated 1,496 yards from scrimmage and four touchdowns. As a fifth-year senior, he will retain one more year of eligibility in 2025. Meanwhile, wide receiver Kaleb Brown has opted to redshirt and sit out the remainder of the season, although it remains unclear whether he will seek a transfer. Brown, a highly touted recruit from Ohio State, was Iowa’s third-leading receiver last year with 215 yards and a touchdown, but has seen limited action this season, managing just one catch for 18 yards.
