In a thrilling rematch of last season’s championship game, the Washington Huskies exacted revenge on the Michigan Wolverines with a 27-17 victory at Husky Stadium. Quarterback Will Rogers led the charge, throwing for 271 yards and two touchdowns in the first half. The Huskies’ offense came alive early, building a 14-0 lead before Michigan finally found its rhythm.
The Wolverines, led by backup quarterback Jack Tuttle, fought back to take a 17-14 lead in the third quarter. However, two crucial turnovers in the fourth quarter sealed their fate. Tuttle fumbled the ball with 8:02 left, and Washington capitalized with a 1-yard touchdown run by Jonah Coleman. On Michigan’s next possession, Tuttle was intercepted by Kamren Fabiculanan, leading to a 32-yard field goal that put the game out of reach.
The win marked Washington’s 18th consecutive victory at Husky Stadium, the second-longest streak in school history. It was also a sweet revenge for the Huskies, who lost to Michigan in last season’s championship game. “It feels good to come back and win after losing to them in the championship,” said Fabiculanan, one of the few holdovers from the championship game.
Michigan’s loss snapped their 24-game Big Ten regular-season win streak, dating back to 2021. Coach Sherrone Moore attributed the loss to the two turnovers in the fourth quarter, saying, “We got to do a better job taking care of the football in all aspects.”
Washington’s Jedd Fisch earned his first big win as head coach, and the team’s celebration was a testament to the significance of the victory. “I was curious if they were going to storm the field, and when they did, it was just awesome,” said Rogers, who threw his first interception in over a year early in the fourth quarter. “I’ve never been a part of that, and it’s something I’ll remember for the rest of my life.”
