College Football’s Most Unpredictable Season Yet
The 2024 season has been nothing short of astonishing, with upsets and surprises galore. The latest shocker came when Vanderbilt took down Alabama, despite the Crimson Tide’s impressive stats. In fact, Alabama’s SP+ rating remained unchanged at No. 3, highlighting the team’s underlying strength.
This week’s SP+ rankings saw some significant shifts, with Wisconsin, Indiana, and West Virginia making notable gains. Meanwhile, Missouri, Florida State, and Iowa suffered significant drops.
The conference rankings also underwent a shake-up, with the SEC and Big Ten solidifying their positions at the top. The Sun Belt, however, continues to defy expectations, boasting an average rating of -6.4.
Looking ahead to the College Football Playoff, SP+ projections suggest a thrilling 12-team tournament. Texas, Ohio State, Miami, and Ole Miss would secure the top four spots, with Indiana and Georgia also making strong cases.
In the Résumé SP+ rankings, which evaluate teams based on their performance against their schedule, Texas and Ohio State lead the pack. Army, meanwhile, sneaks into the top 15, raising the possibility of a historic Army-Navy showdown.
