In the picturesque town of St. Andrews, Scotland, a thrilling finale unfolded at the iconic Old Course, as Tyrrell Hatton clinched his third Dunhill Links Championship title in a nail-biting finish. The English golfer’s masterful play earned him a one-stroke victory over his closest rival, Nicolas Colsaerts.
As the two leaders approached the 18th hole, the tension was palpable. Both Hatton and Colsaerts had driven their balls just short of the green, setting the stage for a dramatic conclusion. Colsaerts, seeking his first win in five years, lined up an 8-foot birdie putt but narrowly missed, leaving Hatton with a golden opportunity.
With ice-cool composure, Hatton chipped his ball to within 4 feet of the hole and sank the putt, securing his seventh European Tour victory. The crowd erupted in jubilation as Hatton celebrated his triumph, which will propel him to 20th in the world rankings.
“It’s an incredible feeling to win at the home of golf,” Hatton beamed. “I’m still trying to process it all – it’s hard to put into words.” This victory marks Hatton’s first European Tour win since 2021 and ties the tournament record he set in 2017.
Colsaerts, who has been battling a rare kidney disease, showed remarkable resilience in his pursuit of victory. The Belgian golfer, ranked 695th in the world, demonstrated his unwavering determination, saying, “It proves I still have what it takes… I’m ready to get back on the merry-go-round.”
Tommy Fleetwood finished in third place, three strokes behind Hatton, in an event that brought together professionals and amateurs from the world of celebrity and business over three Scottish courses. In a poignant touch, Hatton was accompanied by his father throughout the tournament.
