In a bold move to revamp their offense, the Carolina Panthers invested a whopping $150 million in free agency to bolster their middle line. And it didn’t take long for their new guard, Damien Lewis, to prove his worth. In the first quarter of Sunday’s matchup against the Chicago Bears, Lewis played a pivotal role in opening up a massive gap on the left side, allowing running back Chuba Hubbard to burst through for a 38-yard touchdown.
The Panthers’ hefty investment in Lewis, who signed a four-year deal worth $53 million, is already paying dividends. His impressive block, combined with the efforts of tackle Ikem Ekwonu, created a seam that Hubbard exploited with ease, giving the Panthers an early 7-0 lead. The touchdown marked Hubbard’s third straight game with over 100 yards rushing, a feat he’s never achieved before. If he can maintain this pace, he’ll become the first Panthers player to do so since Christian McCaffrey in 2019.
