In the Steel City, the highly anticipated Sunday night showdown between the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Dallas Cowboys finally saw some real action in the third quarter. After a stalemate of field goals, the Steelers broke through with a 16-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Justin Fields to tight end Connor Heyward, taking a 10-6 lead with 11:50 remaining.
The connection between Fields and Heyward was a welcome redemption, considering their earlier misfire on the Steelers’ initial drive. On that play, Fields overthrew Heyward, missing an opportunity for a big gain.
The touchdown throw came shortly after Fields took a hard hit from Cowboys defensive end Tyrus Wheat, who was penalized for roughing the passer. Fields briefly left the game, ceding two plays to backup quarterback Kyle Allen, including a 19-yard completion to tight end Pat Freiermuth. However, Fields returned to the field, firing off four consecutive completions, culminating in the score.
