On Saturday, the Columbus Blue Jackets bolstered their offense by inking 28-year-old forward Kevin Labanc to a one-year deal worth $775,000. Labanc’s impressive preseason performance with the New Jersey Devils, where he tallied six goals and an assist in just four games, wasn’t enough to secure a contract with the team. However, his showcase caught the attention of the Blue Jackets’ front office.
“Labanc brings a proven track record of production to our lineup,” said General Manager Don Waddell. “His sniper’s instinct and exceptional playmaking skills will undoubtedly enhance our team’s overall scoring potential. Moreover, his strong character makes him an excellent fit for our locker room.”
Last season, Labanc notched nine points, including two goals and seven assists, in 46 games with the San Jose Sharks. Throughout his 478-game career, he has accumulated 225 points, comprising 82 goals and 143 assists, along with 217 penalty minutes. The San Jose Sharks originally drafted Labanc in the sixth round of the 2014 NHL draft.
