Top-flight women’s football manager slams league’s “unacceptable” scheduling
A leading women’s football manager has lambasted the domestic league’s timetable, branding it “unacceptable” and damaging to fans. The criticism comes after a high-profile match was rescheduled at short notice due to player welfare concerns.
The manager, who guides a top-tier team, argues that the league’s fixture planning is inadequate and reactive, rather than proactive. He points out that the Champions League group stage schedule was set last year, and yet the league failed to adjust its own timetable accordingly.
“It’s not a good situation,” the manager said. “Thirteen teams in the Champions League group stage were scheduled to play on Friday or Saturday, while the three English teams were all set to play on Sunday. This lack of foresight is unacceptable and shows a disregard for fans’ time and money.”
The manager believes that the league’s inaction is not only detrimental to fans but also hinders English teams’ chances of success in European competitions. “Does the league want English club teams to thrive in Europe? The answer should be yes, but their actions suggest otherwise. It’s a negative for English women’s club football and undermines our ability to improve our coefficient.”
The rescheduling of the match has also put his team at a disadvantage ahead of their upcoming clash with the opposing side. “We have considerably less preparation time than our opponents. This is unacceptable and highlights the need for change in the league’s approach to Champions League football and its respect for supporters.”
