Major League Baseball’s Most Decorated Teams
The Texas Rangers’ triumphant 2023 season culminated in a World Series championship, joining an elite group of teams with multiple titles. But which organizations have claimed the most MLB crowns?
The New York Yankees reign supreme with an unprecedented 27 championships. Their dynasty spans nearly a century, with titles in 1923, 1927, 1928, 1932, 1936, 1937, 1938, 1939, 1941, 1943, 1947, 1949, 1950, 1951, 1952, 1953, 1956, 1958, 1961, 1962, 1977, 1978, 1996, 1998, 1999, 2000, and 2009. The Yankees have also secured a record 40 American League pennants and 20 AL East Division titles, solidifying their position as the most successful team in MLB history.
The St. Louis Cardinals follow closely behind, boasting 11 World Series titles. Their championship years include 1926, 1931, 1934, 1942, 1944, 1946, 1964, 1967, 1982, 2006, and 2011. The Cardinals have also earned 19 National League pennants, the third-highest total in the league.
The Oakland Athletics, despite recent struggles, have enjoyed periods of dominance, capturing nine World Series titles. Their championship seasons date back to 1910, 1911, 1913, 1929, 1930, 1972, 1973, 1974, and 1989.
The Boston Red Sox have also claimed nine World Series crowns, with victories in 1903, 1912, 1915, 1916, 1918, 2004, 2007, 2013, and 2018. The team’s 86-year drought between 1918 and 2004 was famously known as the “Curse of the Bambino,” a result of their decision to trade Babe Ruth to the Yankees in 1920.
Rounding out the top five is the San Francisco Giants, who have secured eight World Series titles. Originally based in New York, the Giants have made the third-most World Series appearances (23) and have won championships in 1905, 1921, 1922, 1933, 1954, 2010, 2012, and 2014. Notably, the Giants hold the record for the most wins in MLB history.
