The national women’s soccer team will conclude its 2024 season with a highly anticipated away match against the Netherlands on December 3, revisiting the thrilling 2019 World Cup final. This showdown will take place at ADO Den Haag Stadium in The Hague, just three days after the team faces off against England at the iconic Wembley Stadium in London.
Following a phenomenal summer performance, which saw the team secure a fifth Olympic gold medal, the focus shifts to continued growth and development. According to the team’s head coach, “We’re eager to build upon our summer success and take valuable lessons from our experiences in France. To do so, we need to test ourselves against the world’s top teams.”
Currently ranked second globally, England presents a formidable challenge, while the Netherlands, ranked 11th, will provide a stiff test as well. The team has enjoyed an impressive run, with only one loss in 18 games this year, a surprising 2-0 upset against Mexico in the Concacaf W Gold Cup.
This European trip marks the team’s first friendly matches outside of home territory since January 2023, when they faced New Zealand in preparation for the World Cup. The team last played in Europe in October 2022, with matches against England and Spain.
Before embarking on their European adventure, the team will host a trio of home friendlies in late October. They will face Iceland on October 24 in Austin, Texas, and again on October 27 in Nashville, Tennessee, followed by a match against Argentina on October 30 in Louisville, Kentucky. Iceland has risen to 13th in the world rankings, while Argentina sits at 33rd.
