A seasoned coach is making a move to a new team, taking on a crucial role to bolster the support system for the head coach. After 13 years of dedicated service to a premier team, Murray Davis is set to join the coaching staff at West Lakes in a newly created position of coaching director.
Davis brings an impressive resume to the table, having coached a potent forward line and earning two coach-of-the-year awards in local leagues. His extensive experience in Queensland football will undoubtedly be an asset to his new team.
The head coach, who has been at the helm since 2020, has high expectations to live up to after narrowly missing the finals last season. Despite a promising start with a contract extension until 2026, the team struggled to find their footing, losing their first four games and ultimately finishing 15th with eight wins and a draw.
In addition to Davis, the team is also pursuing another key figure to oversee their program. Graham Wright, formerly the football boss at Collingwood, is being courted to bring his expertise to the team. Wright played a pivotal role in the Magpies’ championship win last season before taking a sabbatical and eventually leaving the club.
This isn’t the first time the team has attempted to lure a highly respected administrator to their ranks. Three years ago, they tried to bring in Neil Balme, but he opted to stay at Richmond instead. With Davis on board and Wright potentially joining the team, the future is looking bright for this squad.
