In the Mile High City, a blast from the past is set to take center stage as the hometown team prepares to don their iconic retro uniforms for a special matchup. For one day only, the squad will trade in their modern attire for a nostalgic look that harkens back to a bygone era.
The star cornerback, a two-time Pro Bowl selection, is thrilled to slip into the vintage duds, which feature a distinctive orange and blue color scheme, complete with a snorting horse emblem on the helmet. “They’re tight, they’re dope,” he exclaimed. “I wish we could wear them more often.”
This Sunday’s contest marks a special occasion, as the team celebrates its rich heritage with an alumni weekend. Two legendary players will be formally inducted into the franchise’s hallowed Ring of Fame, while a Hall of Famer will receive his official ring as part of the Pro Football Hall of Fame Class of 2024.
The retro uniforms, which were a staple of the team’s identity from 1968 to 1996, have been revived as part of a new collection of uniform combinations unveiled earlier this year. While 41 players on the current roster were born too late to experience the uniforms during their initial run, they’re all eager to channel the spirit of their predecessors.
“I think they’re awesome,” said the team’s rookie quarterback. “It’s fun to wear throwbacks… and ours are pretty cool.”
A veteran wide receiver, who was just a toddler when the uniforms were last worn regularly, echoed the sentiment. “I mean, y’all seen them bad boys… I’m looking forward to Sunday, putting the threads on, the helmets are some good eye candy for sure.”
