In the midst of a tumultuous season, a young kicker is fighting to prove himself in the NFL. Despite struggling with accuracy, Brayden Narveson remains determined to turn his fortunes around. The rookie’s recent performance has been marred by four missed field goals, including two crucial errors in a narrow loss to the Minnesota Vikings.
Narveson’s boss, General Manager Brian Gutekunst, has been open about his lack of patience with specialists, admitting that he may not give them the benefit of the doubt. However, Narveson is grateful for the opportunity to redeem himself and is working tirelessly to rectify his mistakes.
“I’m going to take that as a token of gratitude and a blessing, and I’m going to go prepare my ass off all week,” Narveson said. “A lot of people are probably writing me off right now. I’m going to take that with, not to prove people wrong, but prove the people that believed in me right.”
Narveson’s struggles have been attributed to his plant foot getting wide, causing him to aim too far right. He is focused on refining his technique and is confident that he can overcome his issues.
Coach Matt LaFleur has publicly backed Narveson, citing his strong performance in practice. However, LaFleur also emphasized the importance of delivering on game day. “We expect him to make those kicks as well,” LaFleur said. “We’ve got to make sure that we get that production and make sure that his routine is right and he’s got to be able to self-correct as well.”
As the season progresses, Narveson will be under intense scrutiny. With the Packers bringing in other kickers for workouts, the pressure is on for him to prove himself. But Narveson remains resolute, adopting a “screw-it mentality” as he strives to regain his confidence and become a reliable asset for his team.
