In a significant blow to their offense, the Texas-based football team will be without one of their key players for their upcoming matchup against the Pennsylvania-based franchise. According to sources close to the team, the wide receiver in question underwent a medical procedure last week, but unfortunately developed an infection in his right knee upon his return.
The 31-year-old athlete had been dealing with a knee issue since the preseason, but it hadn’t hindered his ability to practice or participate in games. In fact, he had a similar procedure done during training camp without any complications. However, this latest setback required surgical intervention to clean out the infection, which was performed by team doctors over the weekend.
The coach confirmed that the player would not be available for the team’s upcoming game, leaving a significant void in the receiving corps. Despite having nine catches for 91 yards and a touchdown in the first four games, the player’s absence will be deeply felt. His veteran presence and guidance have been invaluable to the team’s younger receivers, and his top-end speed has been a valuable asset to the offense.
With the player sidelined, the team will rely on a relatively inexperienced group of receivers, led by their star player, who has 20 receptions for 316 yards and two touchdowns. The remaining receivers on the roster have combined for 21 receptions for 267 yards and two scores, leaving the team thin at the position.
While the team has the financial flexibility to make a move, with over $22 million in salary cap room, they may be hesitant to do so, as they plan to carry over most of that money to next year to accommodate the expiring contracts of several key players.
