Legendary Voices in the Running for Baseball’s Top Broadcasting Honor

Legendary Voices of the Diamond Vie for Prestigious Honor

In the picturesque village of Cooperstown, New York, the National Baseball Hall of Fame has unveiled the esteemed finalists for the coveted Ford C. Frick Award, recognizing exceptional baseball broadcasting. This year’s distinguished nominees include veteran announcers John Sterling, Gary Cohen, and Skip Caray.

Caray, Jacques Doucet, Tom Hamilton, Duane Kuiper, and Ernie Johnson Sr. return to the ballot, having been previously considered last year. New additions to the list include Sterling, Rene Cardenas, and Dave Sims. Conversely, Joe Buck, Ken Korach, and Dan Shulman were omitted from this year’s ballot.

This marks the third consecutive election focusing on broadcasters whose careers span the wild-card era, which commenced in 1995. The pre-wild card era will be revisited in 2026 voting, culminating in the 2027 induction weekend.

The winner will be revealed on December 11 at the winter meetings in Dallas and subsequently honored during the Hall’s July 26 awards ceremony, preceding the induction festivities. To be eligible, a broadcaster must have accrued at least 10 continuous years of experience with a network or team.

A subcommittee comprising past winners, including Marty Brennaman and Eric Nadel, along with esteemed broadcast historians, carefully curated the ballot. A panel of 13 past winners, historians, and a former journalist will cast their votes to determine the esteemed recipient of this prestigious award.
