French Giants Stunned in Champions League Defeat
In a humbling 2-0 loss to Arsenal on Tuesday, Paris Saint-Germain coach Luis Enrique conceded that his team fell short of the standards required to compete at the highest level. The French champions, still adjusting to life without their star player, struggled to contain the Premier League side’s intensity and pressure.
Goals from Kai Havertz and Bukayo Saka put Arsenal in control before halftime, and despite PSG hitting the woodwork twice, they were ultimately outclassed. Enrique took responsibility for the defeat, citing his team’s inability to win individual battles on the pitch.
“Arsenal were superior in every aspect,” Enrique admitted. “They won every duel, and their defenders anticipated our attackers while ours didn’t anticipate theirs. You can’t expect a positive result when you don’t win any of your duels.”
The Spanish coach, who led his team to the Champions League semifinals last season, acknowledged that Arsenal presented a significant step up in quality for his side. “This was our first real test against a top-level opponent,” he said. “We knew they would press us high, and we couldn’t cope with that pressure.”
Enrique expressed uncertainty about how long it would take to restore his team to European prominence, citing the need for time to evaluate their progress. “I have a clear idea of where I want us to be, but I don’t know how much time I’ll need,” he said.
