In a significant blow to their defensive lineup, the Texas-based football team has placed star defender DeMarcus Lawrence on the injured list due to a severe foot injury. The team has acted swiftly to fill the gap by signing defensive end KJ Henry from the Cincinnati practice squad.
Lawrence, who suffered the injury during last week’s game against the New York Giants, is expected to be sidelined for four to eight weeks. Fortunately, he will not require surgery. The team is also bracing for the possibility of playing without edge rusher Micah Parsons, who is nursing a high ankle sprain.
Henry, a fifth-round draft pick in 2023, brings valuable experience to the team, having played in 10 games for the Washington Commanders last season, where he recorded 19 tackles and 1.5 sacks. As per league rules, Henry must remain on the 53-man roster for at least three games.
To bolster their defensive lineup, the team is likely to promote veteran defensive end Carl Lawson from the practice squad for the third consecutive game. Lawson would need to be added to the 53-man roster to play again. The team also has Tyrus Wheat on the active roster, although he has been inactive for the past two games.
In a recent radio interview, the team’s owner and general manager expressed skepticism about acquiring a defensive end through trade, suggesting that the team will rely on its existing talent to navigate the challenging period ahead.
