Kansas City Royals Welcome Back Star First Baseman for AL Wild Card Series
In a surprise move, the Kansas City Royals have added first baseman Vinnie Pasquantino to their 26-man roster for the American League Wild Card Series against the Baltimore Orioles. Pasquantino’s return comes just four weeks after undergoing surgery to repair a broken right thumb.
The 26-year-old slugger is expected to bat third in the Royals’ lineup for Game 1 in Baltimore, according to sources. Pasquantino has been sidelined since August 29, but has been working tirelessly to accelerate his recovery.
Initially, the Royals projected a 6-8 week recovery timeline, but Pasquantino was determined to return ahead of schedule, especially if the team made the postseason. His hard work has paid off, and he’ll look to make an immediate impact in the AL Wild Card Series.
This season, Pasquantino batted.262 with 19 home runs and 97 RBI in 131 games, helping the Royals secure the AL’s second wild card with an 86-76 record. After a promising start to his career, Pasquantino was limited to just 61 games last year due to season-ending surgery on a torn labrum in his right shoulder.
With Pasquantino back in the fold, the Royals will look to capitalize on their postseason opportunity and make a deep run in the playoffs.
