The Ageless Wonder Continues to Dazzle
As the clock ticks closer to a milestone birthday, a certain superstar forward is defying Father Time, silencing critics, and rewriting the record books. Last season, he shattered the single-season scoring mark in the top flight with an astonishing 35 goals in just 31 appearances, leaving the competition in his wake.
His nearest rival, Aleksandar Mitrović, trailed behind with 28 goals, a testament to the forward’s incredible prowess. Even the likes of Karim Benzema and Roberto Firmino, who have graced the biggest stages, struggled to keep pace, managing only nine goals each in 21 and 32 appearances, respectively.
The forward recently achieved a historic milestone, becoming the first male player to reach 900 goals in official matches. He has started the new campaign in scintillating form, and his latest outing in the AFC Champions League Elite was no exception.
Despite missing the campaign opener due to illness, he made a triumphant return against Al Rayyan, albeit with a few early hiccups. He squandered a couple of golden opportunities in the first half, including a free header that he would normally convert with ease.
However, he made amends two minutes into the second half, only to see his effort ruled out for a marginal offside call. Undeterred, he continued to probe, and his persistence paid off with 14 minutes remaining. A sublime assist from substitute Abdulrahman Ghareeb set him up, and he unleashed a trademark first-time effort past the goalkeeper, sealing the win for his team.
The 2-1 victory marked the seventh time in eight games that the forward has found the back of the net, cementing his status as the difference maker. Even on an evening that initially seemed destined for disappointment, he proved once again why he remains an unstoppable force in the world of football.
