French Automaker Shifts Gears: Historic Engine Factory to Become Hub for Innovation
In a significant move, a renowned French car manufacturer has announced plans to repurpose its iconic engine production facility outside Paris, marking the end of an era in Formula 1 engine manufacturing. The site, which employs over 300 staff, will be transformed into a cutting-edge ‘Hypertech’ centre of engineering, featuring a dedicated Formula 1 monitoring unit.
The decision means the company’s Formula 1 team will source power units from another manufacturer starting from the 2026 season. This strategic shift is part of the company’s broader innovation strategy, aimed at strengthening its position as a pioneer in the industry.
The ‘Hypertech’ centre will leverage the site’s rich heritage and expertise, ensuring the continuity of its unique skills and know-how. Each affected employee will be offered a new role within the revamped facility, which will focus on driving innovation across various projects.
The company’s Formula 1 team, currently ninth in the championship, will continue to operate from its Enstone, England-based chassis factory. The team’s leadership has reiterated its commitment to maintaining its racing DNA, a cornerstone of the brand’s identity.
Industry insiders have speculated about potential partnerships, including a possible deal with a leading engine manufacturer. However, no official announcement has been made regarding a new power unit supplier.
This transformation marks a significant turning point in the history of the Viry-Chatillon site, as the company embarks on an exciting new chapter in its pursuit of innovation and excellence.
