In the midst of a fresh season, the atmosphere in San Francisco is electric. The Warriors are navigating uncharted territory without a key player, forcing them to adapt and evolve. This change, however, brings new opportunities for growth.
“It’s a chance for us to reinvent ourselves,” said Draymond Green at media day. “When you’re doing the same thing over and over, it can get stale. Now, we get to turn the page and explore new possibilities.”
The team’s revamped roster features an array of new talent, including Buddy Hield, Kyle Anderson, and De’Anthony Melton. They’ll be joining a young core of Jonathan Kuminga, Moses Moody, Brandin Podziemski, and Trayce Jackson-Davis. With so many new faces, Green, Coach Steve Kerr, and Stephen Curry are open to adjusting their playing style to maximize everyone’s skills.
“I’m coming into this training camp with an open mind,” Curry said. “We have a system that’s worked in the past, but that doesn’t mean it’s the best fit for this team. We need to be open to change and find what works for us.”
The loss of veteran players has given Curry a fresh perspective on the season. “Sometimes you need a wake-up call to realize what needs to change. We got that last season, and now it’s time to adapt and evolve.”
The Warriors’ front office has been vocal about their desire to return to championship form. According to Green, the team’s recent signings are a step in the right direction. “One move can change the trajectory of your organization. Sometimes the best move is the one you don’t make. I think we did a great job of finding pieces that will help us grow.”
Green drew parallels between the current roster and the 2021-22 season, when the team brought in Gary Payton II, Otto Porter Jr, and Nemanja Bjelica, ultimately winning their fourth title. “Championships are won with depth. It’s not just about your top five players.”
With 12 to 13 players vying for rotation spots, Kerr faces the challenge of finding the right combinations to unlock each player’s potential. Through training camp and the preseason, the Warriors will be working to find their new identity.
“We’re the hunters now,” Curry said. “Our goal is to maximize every skill set in that locker room. We need to think differently to win.”
