The Dallas Mavericks are gearing up for a championship run this season, and their superstar Luka Doncic is confident that the team has what it takes to bring home the title. “Championship” was the one-word answer Doncic gave when asked to summarize the team’s approach this season.
The Mavericks made a significant offseason move by signing a four-time NBA champion, who brings a wealth of title experience to the team. This new addition is expected to be the final piece to the Mavericks’ title puzzle.
Doncic’s co-star, Kyrie Irving, played a key role in recruiting the new player and believes his presence will greatly benefit the team. “I feel like our dreams can be possible because he’s here now,” Irving said. “He’s added a great value to our championship aspirations.”
The new player’s title experience is invaluable, but it’s his historically elite 3-point shooting that will be a game-changer for the Mavericks. The team struggled from long range in the NBA Finals last season, shooting only 31.6% from 3-point range. The new player, a career 41.3% 3-point shooter, will provide a much-needed boost in this area.
When asked about playing with the new player, Doncic said, “When me and Kyrie have the ball, you basically can’t help off of him. Because if you leave him wide open, he’s going to make it.” Coach Jason Kidd echoed this sentiment, saying, “We’ve had shooters, but we haven’t had a premier perimeter shooter like this player. This is rare air.”
The new player is aware that he will need to make adjustments to fit in with the Mavericks’ system, which is different from what he’s used to. “From an X’s and O’s standpoint, I’ll have to adjust to maybe playing off such good creators,” he said. However, he’s excited to play with Doncic and Irving, saying, “It’ll be fun to play with them in those sets because they draw so much attention and they get so many open looks for the perimeter.”
With the new player on board, the Mavericks are confident that they have what it takes to win a championship this season. As Doncic said, “That’s the goal.”
