In the midst of a highly anticipated NBA season, one team is feeling overlooked – the Milwaukee Bucks. Despite boasting a star-studded roster, they won’t be taking the court on Christmas Day, a rare occurrence for the team.
Coach Doc Rivers addressed this perceived snub during the team’s media day, echoing the sentiments of his players. “I think we’ve been somewhat overlooked,” said forward Khris Middleton. “We should have had a Christmas Day game, but the NBA felt differently.”
The Bucks’ omission from the holiday schedule may be attributed to their relatively quiet offseason, which paled in comparison to the splashy moves made by teams like the New York Knicks and Philadelphia 76ers. Meanwhile, the Boston Celtics are still basking in the glory of their championship win.
However, the Bucks are confident in their ability to compete with the league’s best. “We’re definitely in that group,” Middleton said. “You have [star players], and the rest of the crew – we’re definitely one of the top contenders in the East.”
A major factor in the Bucks’ optimism is the stability they’ve gained since last season. Damian Lillard, who was traded to the team just before training camp last year, reported to camp feeling more comfortable and in better shape. “They’re going to get the real version of me this year,” he said.
Giannis Antetokounmpo, who spent the summer playing for Greece in the Olympics and rehabbing an injury, is also looking forward to building on last season’s foundation. “Last year, we felt like we were all over the place,” he said.
With Coach Rivers at the helm from the start of the season, the Bucks are focused on fostering connections and building chemistry. They’re also aware of the challenges they’ll face, including health concerns – the team has one of the oldest rosters in the NBA.
Middleton, who had surgeries on both his ankles this summer, is optimistic about his status and plans to participate in some training camp activities. “I think I’ll be missing a little bit of important time with the 5-on-5 action, but everything else I’ll be able to be out there,” he said.
As the Bucks gear up for the season, they’re determined to prove themselves as top contenders in the East. With their star power, stability, and renewed focus, they’re ready to make a statement.
