Top-flight club boss confirms talks with veteran goalkeeper
The manager of the league-leading team has confirmed that he has held discussions with a former top-flight goalkeeper who has arrived at the club to finalize a move. The 34-year-old shot-stopper, who previously played for two European giants, has come out of retirement to bolster the team’s goalkeeping options following a season-ending injury to the current number one.
While the manager stopped short of confirming the signing, he did reveal that no promises have been made regarding playing time. “No player has guarantees of being a starter,” he emphasized. “I’ve spoken with him, but I won’t say any more than that. If he signs, we can talk more about it later.”
Sources close to the club indicate that the veteran goalkeeper will sign a deal until the end of the season, with the current backup set to start in the upcoming Champions League match against Swiss opponents.
In other team news, the manager confirmed that a key midfielder is set to return after a five-month layoff due to an ankle injury. “It’s fantastic news that he’s back with us,” the manager said. “He’s very important for us, and his attitude is great. He’s been willing to help the team, and we needed his presence.”
The midfielder’s return is a welcome boost, especially given the team’s recent struggles. They suffered their first league defeat of the season over the weekend and also lost their opening Champions League match. However, the manager remains optimistic about the team’s chances in Europe, saying, “We want to have success in the Champions League and win all our games. We work well, train hard, and play good football, and if we need to gain respect again, we’ll work hard on that.”
