In a thrilling conclusion to the Walmart NW Arkansas Championship, Thai golfer Jasmine Suwannapura emerged victorious in a sudden-death playoff against Lucy Li on Sunday. The dramatic win marked Suwannapura’s third LPGA Tour title, with her previous victories coming at the 2018 Marathon Classic and the 2019 Dow Great Lakes Bay Invitational.
Suwannapura’s impressive performance was capped off by a stunning 12-foot eagle putt on the second playoff hole, securing her win at Pinnacle Country Club. The 31-year-old golfer had earlier eagled the par-5 18th hole in regulation, forcing the playoff with Li. Both players birdied the 18th on the first extra hole, setting the stage for Suwannapura’s dramatic win.
Suwannapura shot a bogey-free 10-under 61, playing the back nine in an incredible 7-under 28. Li, meanwhile, shot a 60, including her third eagle of the round on 18. Despite falling short of her first LPGA Tour victory, the 21-year-old American was thrilled with her performance.
“I had no idea I’d be in contention,” Li said. “After two three-putts in the first four holes, I thought my chances were slim. But somehow, I managed to shoot 60. Even though I didn’t win, this experience has been incredible.”
Sei Young Kim finished a stroke behind the leaders, shooting a 63. Mao Saigo and Arpichaya Yubol tied for fourth at 14 under, while second-round leader Ashleigh Buhai finished sixth at 13 under. University of Arkansas sophomore Maria Marin had a strong showing, closing with a 69 to tie for 17th at 10 under in her first tour start.
