In a stunning display of offensive prowess, the Indianapolis Colts dominated the Pittsburgh Steelers’ highly touted defense on their opening drive. Running back Jonathan Taylor capped off an impressive eight-play, 70-yard drive with a 2-yard touchdown run, giving the Colts an early 7-0 lead.
The drive was highlighted by a crucial 32-yard completion between quarterback Anthony Richardson and Michael Pittman Jr. on the first play, followed by Taylor’s 29 yards on five rushes. This marked the first time the Steelers had allowed an opening drive touchdown since Week 14 of last season.
However, Richardson’s day was cut short due to a hip injury, and veteran quarterback Joe Flacco took over on the Colts’ second offensive series. Flacco wasted no time, connecting with receiver Josh Downs for a 4-yard touchdown pass with 2:38 left in the first quarter.
The Steelers, who entered the game as the league’s top defense in points allowed per game (8.7) and yards allowed per game (229), were left reeling as the Colts built a 17-0 lead with 178 yards of total offense just three minutes into the second quarter.
