North of the Border, Hoops Hopes Hindered by Injury
In a setback for the Toronto Raptors, their promising young recruit, Ja’Kobe Walter, will be sidelined for the start of his inaugural NBA training camp due to a sprained right shoulder. The 6-foot-4 guard, selected 19th overall in the first round of the NBA draft, suffered the injury during informal team workouts earlier this week.
Walter, who celebrated his 20th birthday in early September, made a name for himself in his sole season with Baylor University, earning top scorer honors and being named Big 12 Freshman of the Year. His impressive stats, including 14.5 points and 4.4 rebounds per game, had fans eagerly anticipating his professional debut.
The Raptors, who struggled through a 25-57 season and missed the play-in tournament last year, will reassess Walter’s condition after next week’s training camp in Montreal. While the team waits for their young talent to heal, they’ll be working to rebuild and rebound from a disappointing previous season.
