Pro Basketball Forward Sidelined with Groin Injury
Sacramento’s top reserve player, Trey Lyles, suffered a setback during an offseason training session, injuring his left groin. The team announced that Lyles will be reevaluated in three weeks, which means he’ll miss the upcoming training camp.
Additionally, Lyles will sit out the team’s five preseason games, scheduled to take place between October 9 and 17. His availability for the regular-season opener on October 24 against the Minnesota Timberwolves is also uncertain.
This isn’t the first time Lyles has dealt with injuries. Last season, he missed 13 games due to a left calf strain and another two weeks with a sprained MCL in his left knee, totaling 24 games missed.
Despite the setbacks, Lyles has proven to be a valuable asset off the bench, averaging 7.2 points, 4.4 rebounds, and 1.2 assists in 20 minutes per game. His ability to guard larger opponents has made him an essential component of Sacramento’s bench unit.
